Registering with the police
From August 2022 the Home Office has suspended all visa requirements to register with the police. This change takes immediate effect for those who were previously obliged to register and new visa decisions should not require police registration.
For reference we have listed the nationalities who previously had to register and answer some common questions below.
I previously registered with the police, do I need to keep my certificate up to date?
No.
Do I need to keep my police registration certificate?
No. There will be no requirement for you to use the certificate e.g. in a visa extension application or for any other immigration purpose. You may wish to keep your certificate for you own records or in case registration requirements are ever re-introduced.
Will I be refunded the fee for registering with the police?
No.
I lost my police registration certificate; do I need to replace it?
No.
My visa / visa decision required me to register with the police but I have not done that yet, do I still need to register?
No. Even if a recent visa or decision mentions the need to register with the police it is no longer required now.
I am waiting for an appointment with the police to register/update my certificate, do I need to attend?
No, we expect the police will notify you that the appointment is cancelled.
Which nationalities previously had to register?
If you are one of the following nationalities, you are no longer obliged to comply with any police registration requirements.
