About us

The Student Advice and Support Service is staffed by a very experienced and dedicated team,who have all worked for many years in the advice sector. We are here to ensure that no student is disadvantaged because they are not aware of their rights, responsibilities or entitlements.

We work to very high standards, being members of AdviceUK and UKCISA (UK Council for International Student Affairs), as well as working within the OISC (Office of the Immigration Service Commissioner) Code of Standards.

Meet The Team

  • Gail Langton

    SASS MANAGER. Gail has worked in the advice sector for over 20 years. She joined Loughborough University in 2013 having worked previously at Nottingham Trent University SU Advice Centre. Prior to that Gail spent 13 years with Tunbridge Wells Citizens Advice , latterly as the Training Manager when she was responsible for overseeing and delivering advice training. She has also worked as a freelance trainer, primarily for Citizens Advice delivering advice and quality training.

  • Katherine Weston

    SENIOR ADVISER. Katherine has worked in the advice sector for nearly 20 years, working firstly at North West Leicestershire Citizens Advice Bureau from 1999 and then at De Montfort University Students’ Union from 2001. Within De Montfort University Students’ Union, she began as an adviser, progressing to Senior Adviser and then Advice Manager.

  • Andy Deane

    ADVISER. Andy has worked in the advice sector since 1990, beginning at Nottingham Citizens’ Advice. He later joined the advice service at Nottingham University before switching to LSU in 2001. Andy joined the advice team at Loughborough University in 2008.

  • Martin Matthews

    Martin Matthews

    ADVISER. Martin joined the University in January 2010. He has previously worked for Citizen’s Advice, as a Social Fund Inspector, Loughborough Students’ Union Advice Centre and at a solicitors firm before returning to campus life.

  • Laura Penrose

    Laura Penrose

    ADVISER. Laura has worked in student advice at Loughborough for around 12 years, mainly in the area of money advice for students. Laura regularly attends the university open days giving advice about finance and funding to prospective students and their parents.

    Shivani Sharma

    ADVISER. Shivani has worked in the advice field for approximately 10 years. She started off as an adviser at the Dudley District Citizens Advice Bureau, whilst at university studying law. She went on to qualify as a Housing Law Solicitor in Birmingham, working in a private practice and then working in the legal department at Shelter West Midlands.

  • Louise Waldron

    ADVISER. Louise joined the university in 2004 as an International Student Adviser. She now advises mainly on Housing and Student Finance issues. She previously worked in a student welfare role at Loughborough College.

  • Alice Brennan

    ADVISER. Alice has worked in the advice sector for over ten years. She trained as a Money Adviser at Toynbee Hall in London before relocating to Leicestershire in 2008. Alice has since worked for Leicestershire County Council Adult Social Care services and for Leicestershire Citizen Advice Bureau, and most recently as a Housing Adviser for The Bridge in Loughborough
