Information for students

Welcome to the Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service
The Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service (SWAI) provides a range of support, advice and guidance for students. Our services are open to any student across the University and we work in a way which helps you build on your strengths and achieve your potential on your course. Below is some brief information about the different services we provide. Click on the links to find out more.
▾ Disability Support
The Disability Support Team is here to provide information, advice, guidance and support for students with disabilities. We support students living with any long term (i.e. over 12 months) condition which has a disabling impact on their studies. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Long term health conditions e.g. chronic fatigue syndrome, migraines, Crohn’s disease, diabetes, arthritis, lupus, cancer survivors, hypermobility, chronic back pain
- Specific learning differences e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia
- Visual impairment
- Deafness
- Physical disabilities e.g. cerebral palsy, wheelchair users
- Autistic spectrum conditions e.g. Asperger’s Syndrome
▾ Mental Health Support
The Mental Health Support Team is here to support students experiencing mental health difficulties, provide advice and information on mental health issues, and advise staff about appropriate practical or pastoral support.
If you are a student of the University who is facing barriers that affect your ability to study - due to emotional burden or mental health difficulties - then the Mental Health Support Team may be able to help.
▾ Counselling
The University Counselling Service is available to all students and offers an opportunity to talk and reflect with a professionally trained person who is outside your immediate situation.
Loughborough University Counselling Service is here to help you gain understanding and new perspectives with any difficulties you may be experiencing. Counselling can’t take away life’s problems but can help you to find ways forward, decide on any changes you would like to make, gain new perceptions, discover your own solutions, come to terms with and manage challenging life events.
Counselling is not about giving advice, liaising with others or telling you what you should do. Here at the counselling service we are not able to make any changes for you but we will endeavour to empower you to make changes for yourself, allowing you to fulfil your academic and personal potential. Counselling does not provide advice in respect to academic work; housing or financial difficulties as there are specific departments to help you with these issues.
We are a well-established and experienced team of counsellors who can talk through with you any personal, social or emotional concern that may be affecting your wellbeing, work or studies. As a university Counselling Service we have in-depth knowledge and understanding of the different pressures and difficulties associated working, studying and living in a university environment.
