Mental Wellbeing Teams

Welcome to the University Mental Wellbeing Team
The University’s mental wellbeing teams are part of the Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service. We are here to support you with any concerns you may have about your mental health, wellbeing and barriers to education.
The mental wellbeing service consists of three teams; the Wellbeing Advisers, the Counselling Team and the Mental Health Support Team.
There are a range of self-help resources available which are free to access, and which may help, or answer some of your concerns. Please click here to access them.
If you require further advice or support with emotional, mental health and wellbeing concerns or issues which are impacting on your studies and life at university, please complete the form below
MENTAL WELLBEING REFERRAL FORM
Disclaimer – the content of this form will be used to decide the most appropriate team to support you. Please be as honest as you can, the more information you can give, the more it will allow us to refer you to the most appropriate team. We cannot guarantee to meet all requests, and at some times of the year there may be a waiting list to access the appropriate service.
If you would like to find out more about our mental wellbeing service, please see details below.
▾ Counselling
The University Counselling Service is available to all students and offers an opportunity to talk and reflect with a professionally trained person who is outside your immediate situation.
Loughborough University Counselling Service is here to help you gain understanding and new perspectives with any difficulties you may be experiencing. Counselling can’t take away life’s problems but can help you to find ways forward, decide on any changes you would like to make, gain new perceptions, discover your own solutions, come to terms with and manage challenging life events.
Counselling is not about giving advice, liaising with others or telling you what you should do. Here at the counselling service we are not able to make any changes for you but we will endeavour to empower you to make changes for yourself, allowing you to fulfil your academic and personal potential. Counselling does not provide advice in respect to academic work; housing or financial difficulties as there are specific departments to help you with these issues.
We are a well-established and experienced team of counsellors who can talk through with you any personal, social or emotional concern that may be affecting your wellbeing, work or studies. As a university Counselling Service we have in-depth knowledge and understanding of the different pressures and difficulties associated working, studying and living in a university environment.
▾ Mental Health Support
The Mental Health Support Team is here to support students experiencing mental health difficulties, provide advice and information on mental health issues, and advise staff about appropriate practical or pastoral support.
If you are a student of the University who is facing barriers that affect your ability to study - due to emotional burden or mental health difficulties - then the Mental Health Support Team may be able to help.
▾ Wellbeing Advisers
Each Academic School at Loughborough has a Wellbeing Adviser who can offer advice and support to students on a wide range of wellbeing-related issues, such as:
- Stress
- Low mood
- Bereavement
- Family issues
- Relationship issues
- Feeling overwhelmed
- Transition to University
We may be able to support a student with other issues which are not outlined here so please contact the Wellbeing Adviser for your school if you are unsure.
None of these teams are able to provide a crisis service. If you feel you have a crisis and need immediate help please contact one of the numbers below.
