Leave of Absence

We recognise that the decision to return to learning after a gap is usually a big one. If you are planning to, or are, returning to study after deferring or taking a leave of absence due to a disability, you may wish to get in touch with the Disability Office prior to re-starting.
Our support while on a leave of absence would be to ensure a co-ordinated approach to your progression, and develop this to ensure that difficulties experienced in previous years are considered and arrangements or support put in place to minimise their impact on your studies.
We can help in a number of ways by:
- Providing a point-of-contact within the support services during your leave of absence to answer queries you may have
- Reserving appropriate, on-campus accommodation should this be beneficial
- Discussing your individual circumstances and any concerns you might have about returning to study, in confidence
- Meeting/discussing issues with you on your own, with a support worker, or with a friend or relative
- Providing advice on applying for funding for a wide range of resources which will assist you to study effectively
- Carrying out Disabled Students’ Allowance assessments at our DSA Assessment Centre
- Considering any reasonable adjustments that may need to be made.
- Helping you realistically appraise continuing your chosen course.
If you do not wish to access support then, as with any student, you continue to be welcome to use the whole range of student support at Loughborough University.
If you wish to access support, please let us know as soon as possible so we can make arrangements. Please contact us when you are ready. Our contact details are on the right-hand side of this page.
