▾ About the Mental Health Support Team
The Mental Health Support Team is here to provide practical support to students experiencing mental health difficulties and liaise with staff about appropriate practical or pastoral support.
If you are a student of the University and mental health difficulties are affecting your ability to study, then we may be able to help. If you are a member of staff or colleague supporting a student experiencing mental health difficulties, we are also here to offer you advice.
The Mental Health Support Team provide support by helping you evaluate the practical impact that mental health difficulties may be having on you as a student. We can talk through the support needs you feel you may have and address these directly or through referral to other services. Members of the Team are active participants in the University Mental Health Advisers Network (UMHAN) which aims to share good practice and influence developments across the sector.
▾ Key agencies
The Team work in partnership with wider mental health provision within Leicestershire. You may wish to look at information about these key agencies which can be accessed from their websites below:
- The local Medical Centre on campus, or medical centres outside the local catchment area. We know that it can be difficult to talk to people when you're having difficulties with your mental health. Doc Ready helps you get ready for the first time you visit a doctor to discuss your mental health.
- The University Counselling Service. Counselling gives you an opportunity to talk about whatever concerns you, and can be helpful for a range of personal, emotional and psychological issues.
- Let's Talk Wellbeing - a free NHS talking therapy service.
- Leicestershire Partnership Trust. The Trust provides a range of adult mental health services, both inpatient and community-based, including crisis intervention, psychotherapy, personality disorder therapy, and eating disorders.
