The Power of Nurturing Refugee Businesses
An independent evaluation of Inkomoko’s support programmes in Africa
Join us for the culmination of a two-year funded research project examining refugee business support in Africa. The number of people displaced globally has now surpassed one percent of the world’s population according to UNHCR. Refugee camps offer immediate, urgent humanitarian assistance but can struggle to accommodate the longer term needs of refugees who can be stuck there for decades. In partnership with Inkomoko, this project examines the role business support and loans can play in alleviating hardship and elevating human potential in refugee camps.
The project, funded by the BAM/SAMS Capacity Building Grant Scheme, assessed the impact and transferability of large-scale business and loans support as Inkomoko transferred their programme from Rwanda to Kenya. The event will feature key learnings and recommendations from Dr Michelle Richey (Loughborough University), Dr Raymond Randall (Sheffield University), Prof Monder Ram (Aston University) and Prof MN Ravishankar (Queens University Belfast).
There will also be an opportunity to hear from Julienne Oyler, CEO and Founder of Inkomoko, who has supported around 33,000 businesses across Africa over the past decade. Attendees will be invited to engage with Julienne and her team and to discuss the key findings and recommendations of the report, which will be launched at the event.
